Joshua 22 – 24

Chapter 22: this is a confusing chapter. Reubens people, Gads people, and half of Manassehs people live on one side of the Jordan River and the rest of the Israelites on the other. They build an alter, but not one to god and the other Israelites are pissed so they are about to go to war with them. But the Reubs, Gads, and Manny’s people explain in some weird way that they didn’t do it to piss god off and then the other Israelites chill.

Chapter 23: Joshua is getting old and giving a fair well speech. He says to stick to Moses’ laws and do what god says or else you’ll screw all this awesome inheritance and your current good standing with god.

That’s all for Joshua. On to Judges.

Chapter 24: Joshua recounts the history of the Israelites from Abraham to now. Then he dies at the age of 110. Then some other people die. This is also where the often quoted “But for me and my house, we will serve the lord” comes from. The context is that Joshua is in the middle of telling the Israelites not to worship other gods. He’s basically saying, “y’all do you, but me and my people are going to serve the lord. And you’re asses would be better off doing it too, but you do you”.
